All That Sparkles and Shines!*

The words sparkly and shiny, pretty and frilly, obviously refer to accessories!(Well, at least in fashion)Most call them extras. I call them essentials.(... but Only in moderation.)

Have you ever known someone who ALWAYS, no matter what, over accessorized? It doesn't even have to be jewelry.Over accessorizing can, and will, occur when a big bulky sweater is added and a top hat and huge hoop earrings, sunglasses and bengals halfway up the arm, in attempt to spice up a too plain top and jeans.(refer to picture,dailystab.com)
We've all been guilty of the "over done disease"(doing WAY too much with the sparkles and the sweaters and the headbands etc,.) but rest assured, there is a cure.

The accessory sins
1.Too much detail: An easy way to look over done is to do too much. It hurts more than helps an outfit when one wears a top with lots of detail(whether it be sparkle, ruffle, stripes, dots etc,.)along with lots of intricate jewelry. The key is to pick one or two flashy or detailed pieces (whethertop, bottom, bag, shoe, necklace,or,
earrings) and then mute the rest of the outfit. Let one thing be the star. Don't try to wear ten stars at once!

2.Dangling overdone: Accessorizing, especially in jewelry, is mostly about proportions. It's disproportionate to wear dangling earrings with a long necklace. It will draw the onlookers eye down- ward when the focus should be on your glowing face! Try short to non-dangling earrings with a long layered necklace or dramatic statement earrings and a short string  of pearls (or go with out!)

3.Jewelry disconnect:Pewter!pearls!gold,silver!
wood!leather!.. It's too much! Mixing and matching is all good and fun but be mindful that you aren't mixing every type of metal and or material known to man!

4.Passion for pattern:Do not get me wrong, I love pattern, but some people love it too much! Pick one pattern and then build off of it. Take the colors or shapes in the pattern and think of the accessories that will play off of and add to it.Let your pattern take center stage!

With my four "sins" it may seem that i hate accessorizing\when in fact,I love it!
On the flip side of over doing it, is doing it just right. The honest and true and fool proof way to never over do your accessories again, is to know when to stop. My favorite trick is to overdress on purpose and then "strip down"(accessories only, people) until I'm satisfied with the result. In other words, editing.
A potential outfit is like the manuscript of a book. There are going to be things that don't fit or belong in a manuscript so an EDITOR has to go over it and take it down to absolute essentials(accessories)while keeping the interesting and intriguing qualities of the book.In fashion talk:knowing what belongs and doesn't, what looks good and what's got to go.

                                             Tricks(and tips) of the Trade
1.Always remember that bulky jewelry adds bulk to you. Now, if you're 115 lbs, no need to worry, but if you want to look slimmer, try to avoid big, chunky pieces at ALL costs.

2.Adding too much sparkle tends to make one look like a preteen.Excessive jewels and rhinestones were perfectly acceptable at the young age of twelve but sophistication is often understated. The key isn't to get in people's faces by wearing flashy pieces, it's to wear pieces that create interest which in turn will interest(and if you're lucky, excite)a person.

3.Layering is a great way to add interest(and warmth) to an outfit, but you have to be careful. Again with the bulk, don't use thick pieces. Instead, use thin and somewhat detailed pieces and throw on a belt to create a dynamic look!

4.Over accessorizing is a sure fire way to look like you're trying too hard, and I know you don't want to do that!

Take your basics and add your fave extras to fun and fox things up!

This is exactly what I was talking about. With the detailed neckline on this dress, There's no need for a necklace. The collar acts like jewelry on it's own.

This dress already has a shine to it. The shine is the star so a better pick for accessories would be something much more understated and simple.
